Huanggang / Lok Ma Chau runs 24 hours today through the old halls. At about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026, no official opening date was found for the rebuilt port; October 12 remains a press report. Once open, the new building in Futian, Shenzhen will offer paired border checks and staffed counters for foreign passports. East Rail serves Futian and Luohu; Luohu and Shenzhen Bay passenger clearance stay open until midnight.
- Opening date
- No official public-opening date found at about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026. Government expectation: fourth quarter of 2026. Press report: October 12 at 06:30.
- How clearance will work
- Once open: one building in Futian District, Shenzhen, with the two jurisdictions’ counters side by side inside it. Planned provision: 134 automated channels and 68 staffed counters; one queue for the paired checks.
- Foreign passports
- A foreign passport alone is outside the listed joint automated-channel eligibility. Staffed counters will remain available when the rebuilt port opens.
- Hong Kong side
- For the rebuilt port once open: buses B10 to B15 and NB73, minibuses, five 24-hour coach routes, and taxis. These are planned new-building services, not evidence of commissioning.
- Shenzhen side
- Line 7, Huanggang Checkpoint. Once the new building opens: indoor link to B2, taxis on B1, ride-hailing on B3.
- Current passenger hours
- Huanggang: 24 hours through old halls. Futian: 06:30–22:30. Luohu and Shenzhen Bay: 06:30–midnight. East Rail Lo Wu serves Luohu; Lok Ma Chau serves Futian.
- Our overnight tracker snapshot
- At about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026: Huanggang was open, with a wait band under 30 minutes; Futian, Luohu, Shenzhen Bay and Liantang were closed. The Huanggang row covers the old halls. One snapshot is not a trend.
Huanggang runs 24 hours through its existing halls. At about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026, the new building's opening remained unconfirmed. Immigration's October 6 announcement expects the fourth quarter of 2026.
Last verified: about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026. Government releases, Transport Department and Shenzhen port office had no opening announcement. The reported October 12 opening at 06:30 comes from press sources.
What is the short version?
- Today: 24-hour clearance through the old Huanggang halls. Once rebuilt: one queue for paired checks; passport-only visitors use staffed counters.
- My call: use Futian if its metro lines fit, but it closes at 22:30. After midnight, choose Huanggang; you will need road transport on the Hong Kong side.
When does the new Huanggang Port open?
Plans and press reports checked at about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026:
| Date (2026) | Source | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| July 15 | Hong Kong transport secretary | The shuttle between the old halls will go when the new port opens |
| October 6 | Hong Kong Immigration Department | Expected commissioning in the fourth quarter; automated-channel enrolment opened that day |
| October 7 | Hong Kong Transport Department | Opening-day transport plan; advice not to rush to the new port |
| October 8 | The Standard and am730, press reports citing sources | October 12 opening; am730 reports a 06:30 start |
Keep bookings flexible until the opening is confirmed.
What did our overnight tracker check show?
Our tracker snapshot showed these five Shenzhen crossings at about 1 a.m. Hong Kong time on October 9, 2026:
| Crossing | Status | Wait band |
|---|---|---|
| Futian Port | Closed | — |
| Lo Wu / Luohu | Closed | — |
| Shenzhen Bay | Closed | — |
| Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai | Closed | — |
| Huanggang / Lok Ma Chau | Open | Under 30 minutes |
Our tracker reads Hong Kong Immigration's departure-queue feed for travel toward Shenzhen; these are wait bands, not timed journeys. The Huanggang row covers today's old halls, and one snapshot is not a trend. Open the live response to repeat the check.
HZMB serves Zhuhai and Macao, so it is excluded here; Man Kam To and Sha Tau Kok are absent from this tracker.
What will change?
Until the new building opens, the route is the old one. Ride the Lok Ma Chau–Huanggang shuttle bus from San Tin Public Transport Interchange: it runs 24 hours, every 5 to 15 minutes, for HK$10. Or take a cross-boundary coach from Mong Kok, Yau Tsim, Kwun Tong, Wan Chai or Tsuen Wan. You clear Hong Kong in one hall, ride across, then clear the mainland in the other. That shuttle will go when the replacement opens.
The new building is in Futian District, Shenzhen, with the jurisdictions' counters side by side along an internal boundary. Planned “collaborative inspection and joint clearance”:
- One queue: passengers at staffed counters will present documents separately to the outbound and inbound officers.
- 134 automated channels and 68 staffed counters, plus 26 vehicle kiosks.
- About 5 minutes instead of about 30: the Security Bureau's estimate, not a measurement of the new service.
- 24-hour operation once open, as listed in the Transport Department plan.
Leave time between connections; do not plan around that 5-minute estimate.
Can foreign passport holders use the new gates?
A passport alone cannot use joint automated channels. Immigration lists these permit categories:
- Hong Kong residents with a Home Visit Permit (回乡证), including the version for non-Chinese permanent residents
- Hong Kong residents with a mainland Exit-Entry Permit
- Mainland visitors with an Exit-Entry Permit endorsed for Hong Kong
Show your documents to each authority at manual counters. A foreigners' lane (外国人通道) is planned.
- Passport and entry eligibility: use the visa checker beside the official NIA 30-day rule. Its February 17, 2026 list covers ordinary-passport nationals of listed countries for business, tourism, visiting relatives or friends, exchanges, or transit. Up to 30 days starts at 00:00 after entry day. Check nationality, passport type, purpose and validity for your travel date; the page gives no universal expiry date.
- Arrival card: follow the official NIA instructions.
Huanggang is absent from the 240-hour transit entry list. If you rely on that policy, choose an eligible port using the transit guide.
Should you choose Huanggang, Futian, Luohu or Shenzhen Bay?
Checked October 9, 2026. Border hours differ from train times; suitability is my recommendation.
| Crossing | Hong Kong-side access | Passenger hours | Shenzhen metro | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Huanggang / Lok Ma Chau | Today: cross-boundary shuttle or coach. Once rebuilt port opens: bus, minibus, coach or taxi | 24 hours today; 24 hours planned for replacement | Line 7, Huanggang Checkpoint; new indoor connection only once open | After-midnight arrivals |
| Futian / Lok Ma Chau Spur Line | East Rail to Lok Ma Chau | 06:30–22:30 | Lines 4 and 10, Futian Port | Trips using those metro lines before closing |
| Luohu / Lo Wu | East Rail to Lo Wu | 06:30–midnight | Line 1, Luohu; Line 9 via nearby Renmin South | Trips using those metro lines; check the last train |
| Shenzhen Bay | Bus, minibus, coach or taxi | 06:30–midnight for passengers | Line 13, Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint | Line 13 destinations with a suitable Hong Kong bus or coach |
East Rail has two border termini: Lo Wu → Luohu; Lok Ma Chau → Futian Port. Neither serves Huanggang. Check the train destination.
After 22:30: Luohu and Shenzhen Bay remain open until midnight. Pick by your onward destination and check the last service. The full border guide covers other routes.
How will you reach the new building from Hong Kong?
These stops will serve the new building once open. Current services use the old halls.
The October 7 announcement plans five 24-hour coach routes, with these termini:

- Yau Tsim: Austin Road Cross Boundary Coach Terminus
- Kwun Tong: Lam Tin Station
- Wan Chai: Exhibition Centre Station
- Tsuen Wan: Discovery Park, with Tsuen Wan Station for overnight service
Staying near Arran Street or Exhibition Centre Station? Use its coach once the new port opens. Confirm the fare and departure.
Planned bus fares: single-journey HK dollars, from the Transport Department, checked October 9, 2026.
| Route / source | Hong Kong end | Fare (HK$) | Planned service |
|---|---|---|---|
| B10 | Kwai Tsui Estate | 12.1 | Daytime |
| B11 | Tin Fu, Tin Shui Wai | 10.5 | Daytime |

| B15 | Castle Peak Bay | 15.5 | Daytime Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays |

The plan also lists daytime minibuses 44B, 44B1 and 78; overnight routes include 616S to Mong Kok at HK$28.5. Red urban and green New Territories taxis will serve it within their permitted areas. There will be no public car park.
