Hong Kong–Shenzhen border: which crossing should you use?

If you're a normal first-time visitor heading into central Shenzhen, cross the Hong Kong–Shenzhen border at Futian. Only change that when where you're going, when you're crossing or your visa rule makes the easy answer wrong. The picker gives you one crossing and one backup before you leave Hong Kong.

Where in Shenzhen are you going?

A short queue is no help if the port drops you on the wrong side of the city.

Crossing overnight can rule out the usual ports, however good they look on paper.

Futian Port

Normal

Futian is still the best default for most first-time visitors: the handover from the Hong Kong MTR is simple and the Shenzhen metro is right there.

Handing over from the Hong Kong train is the least confusing first crossing for most newcomers.
It drops you in central Shenzhen with a direct metro connection, no bus transfer.

Fallback: Lo Wu / Luohu

Normal

Use Luohu if you still want an easy MTR backup but Futian stops being the simpler choice.
