Shenzhen Decoded

Who writes Shenzhen Decoded

Three of us make this site. Every guide carries the name of the person who wrote it and the date its facts were last checked. If something is wrong, write to that person.

Stometa

Six years in Shenzhen and still here. Before that, the US.

I write this site the way I'd text you if you asked me what to do before landing — skip the stuff that sounds good on TripAdvisor, say what actually works here. Some things in Shenzhen are quietly broken. When they are, I say so.

Yiko

Designer. Picks the type, the photos, and how every page looks.

I care whether a page looks right before you read a word of it. I collect good-looking things: a shop sign someone clearly thought about, a café with proper light, a well-set menu. When I write a guide, it's about the parts of Shenzhen worth stopping for, not just getting through.

Kelly

Editor. Night owl. Happier outdoors than at a desk.

I edit the guides so they sound like a person talking, and I'm the one who always wants to know where to run, swim, or shoot hoops. I keep late hours, so if a place is still open at midnight, I've probably been. Travel should feel chill. If a guide stresses you out, tell me and I'll fix it.
